my name is Jonas, I am a synaesthetic Lithuanian classical pianist, photographer, videographer, and recording engineer, currently based in Trossingen / Baden-Württemberg region, Germany (and sometimes Lithuania)
photography helps me to get into music from various different, sometimes unconventional perspectives. it helps me to grow as a person. since I was a child I was always keen to find out how and why things work.
as a photographer - I am specialising in portrait | concert | artistic documentary photography.
I'm very interested in the fact that there's a lot of psychology involved in the making of a true portrait - it can be quite intimidating having a huge block of glass and metal pointed at you and can sometimes feel more like a visit to the dentist. my approach involves getting to know you, making you feel comfortable and relaxed, thus letting your personality shine through your beautiful eyes and face.
talking about classical music concert / theatre photography - it's a different kind of game where you need to get the interesting shots with the challenge of being as unintrusive as possible, respecting the environment and not disturbing neither the audience nor the performers. having a classical music background helps a lot with that of course. depending on the situation, it can be very creative - you just need to know how to work around these peculiarities.
my inspiration and ideals come from the traditions of late 19th - early 20th century large format studio photography,
female photographers (Veronika Šleivytė, Žaneta Paunksnė,
Simona Žutautaitė, Svetlana Batura, Chantal Convertini),
mid 20th century documentalists (Antanas Sutkus, Vitas Luckus, Romualdas Rakauskas, Algimantas Kunčius),
Phil Sharp, Adolfo Rozenfeld, Tadas Kazakevičius, Peter Lindbergh
